Meet Marcia

MSN, APRN, PMHCNS-BC — Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist

I am real, and your search is over. You've found a warm, caring, compassionate advanced practice nurse who has worked in the mental health field for more than forty years, in private practice since 1997.

I only do talk therapy. I don't evaluate, prescribe, or manage any medication — not ADHD medication, not anything. What I do is talk with you, and I've been doing it online since long before it was common. Distance is no obstacle.

You and I will be equal partners in your care, an interactive team. As a nurse I'm caring and holistic: your physical, emotional, social, and health concerns all get addressed, and you will be treated respectfully, with your dignity preserved.

Good lives are primarily about good relationships. In the long term, the most important factor in successful therapy is the quality of the relationship between you and me — built on dignity, respect, and a genuine wish to understand each other. I know what it's like to believe that no one cares. I'm here to prove that compassion still exists.

Ready to Talk?

Call or email and we'll find a time. Sessions are online — video, telephone, or secure messaging, whichever suits you — and evening and weekend appointments are available. I accept a number of insurance plans, and I also see clients out of network.

What We Can Work On Together

Online talk therapy for children, teens, young adults, adults, and elders. These are the areas I'm asked for most often.

Children, Teens, Young Adults & Adults

I hold space for children, teens, young adults, and adults: ages 5 and up, tweens, teens, adolescents, college students, "failures to launch," emerging adults, and elders. For students, that includes school pressure, identity, independence, and the anxiety underneath it.

Perinatal Support

Mood and anxiety symptoms and disorders during pregnancy and postpartum. My particular expertise is in prenatal and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, and the mental health side of a woman's reproductive life is badly under-treated.

Neurodivergent Individuals

"On the Spectrum," AuADHD, ADHD, ADD, highly sensitive people (HSPs), empaths, and anyone newly or late diagnosed. If you feel everything more loudly than the people around you seem to, that is workable.

Disordered Eating

Firm, but warm, sensitive support and truth telling for eating, weight, and body image issues. I've been recovering for more than 50 years! Ask me about peanut butter!

Women's Mental Health

I have expertise in women's mental health: stress and coping, relationships, marriage, divorce, babies (young and old), parenting, hormones, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, life transitions, conception (or lack thereof), pregnancy, birth, illness, aging, grief and loss, loneliness, self-esteem, imposter syndrome, caregiver fatigue, and finding direction and purpose.

Digital Nomads & Expats

Support and continuity of care for those living abroad or traveling: adjustment issues, pre-existing mental health conditions, grief and loss, and culture shock.

Good Lives Are Built on Good Relationships

Talk therapy with a whole-person, nurse's view

I know how daunting it can be to find an empathetic, qualified therapist to invest your time and trust in. You want a good fit. In the long term, I've found that the most important factor leading to a mutual feeling of successful therapy is the quality of the relationship between you and me — based on dignity, respect, and the desire to learn about and understand each other, as it relates to your environment and your struggles.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Noticing the thought patterns that keep a mood in place, and working on them directly.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Practical skills for handling intense emotions and the relationships they affect.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT)

Making room for difficult feelings while still moving toward what matters to you.

Psychodynamic

Understanding where a pattern started, so it stops running the show unnoticed.

Strength-Based

Starting from what's already working in you, not from what's broken.

Mindfulness

Noticing what is happening in you right now, without judging it.

Trauma-Informed Care

Going at your pace, with your boundaries honored and your safety first.

Talk Therapy Only

I don't prescribe medication, but I'm happy to work with your prescriber to coordinate your care.
